In this second provocation, we'll explore the emergence of new jobs in the future and the disappearance of some existing ones, along with how tasks within these jobs are evolving. Additionally, we'll discuss the changing workforce and workplace dynamics.
When considering the future job landscape, it's fascinating to note that around 85% of the jobs that today's school children will enter into do not currently exist. This trend is evident as approximately 10% of the jobs in London today didn't exist five years ago, with many being driven by technological advancements. Roles such as Chief Trust Officer, Extended Reality Designer, Prompt Engineer for generative AI tools, Conversational Interface Designer, and Behavioral Psychologist are becoming increasingly vital. There's a plethora of new roles emerging due to the need for effective human-machine interfaces and managerial oversight.
It's essential to identify the roles necessary for the future of our businesses and organizations. While curiosity and emotional intelligence remain crucial attributes, the workforce itself is evolving, with increasing diversity. Migration into the UK is shaping cultural, behavioral, and familial values, impacting expectations in the workplace. With around 37% of London's population being non-UK born, and similar trends in other parts of the UK, our workforce reflects a diverse spectrum of backgrounds.
Furthermore, the pandemic has accelerated changes in our work environments, leading to the adoption of hybrid working models. As we navigate these shifts, it's important to anticipate further changes and adapt accordingly.
